The Cosmetic Practice Emergency Course

This course is designed for cosmetic practice staff who may be required to manage medical emergencies in their clinical setting.

This course is specifically designed to provide cosmetic practice clinicians with the knowledge to identify symptoms and signs which might indicate an emergent medical condition. It will equip participants with the skills to implement potentially life-saving interventions prior to ambulance or emergency department assessment.


The course will prepare you to respond to common, often life threatening medical emergencies such as:

  • Anaphylaxis

  • Asthma

  • Cardiac emergencies

  • Epileptic seizure

  • Stroke

  • Syncope

  • Burns

  • Chemical eye burns



Basic life support certification will be completed as part of this program.



WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This training is for all clinical staff including:

  • Medical

  • Nursing

  • Reception and other support staff.

Dr Sean Arendse

Dr. Sean Arendse, founder of Flawless Rejuvenation Skin Clinic & Flawless Hair Restoration, serves on the Cosmetic Physicians Society of Australia’s Board and is a national trainer and speaker for cosmetic products and devices. As director of his clinics, he’s also a Senior Emergency Physician at a Alfred Health.

A/Prof Greg Goodman

Professor Goodman AM has been a practicing dermatologist for more than 40 years. His areas of specialty include skin cancers, Mohs micrographic surgery, lasers in dermatology, complications with cosmetic treatments, cosmetic dermatology and the treatment of acne and post-acne scarring. He has an academic teaching position as Adjunct Professor with Monash University, University College of London, and previously held the position of Chief of Surgery at the Skin Health Institute. He is president of the Australasian Society of Cosmetic Dermatologists (ASCD). He is head of taskforce for the Australasian College of Dermatologists (ACD) in higher education in Cosmetic Dermatology where he had trained registrars and fellows of the ACD.

He is a national trainer for cosmetic agents and a member of several international editorial boards and advisory committees. He has always had a keen interest in skin care and skin therapeutics, and has published extensively on acne and acne scarring and the use cosmetic enhancements and lasers. His current research interest is skin ageing. He has received multiple awards for his research and journal publications. He has lectured widely both in Australia and overseas on the nature of skin ageing and its treatment and has designed software applications to assess this and optimise treatment suggestions.

Dr Cristina Roman

Dr Cristina Roman is the Lead Pharmacist at The Alfred Emergency and Trauma Centre with over 10 years of clinical experience in emergency medicine. She manages a team of pharmacists that provide comprehensive clinical services to the Emergency and Trauma Centre across extended hours. Current services include daily Emergency Short Stay ward round involvement, Partnered Pharmacist Medication Charting in collaboration with the medical officer, involvement in Stroke Callouts, Stroke Alerts, Sepsis Alerts, Trauma Callouts and Code STEMI.

Dr Nikki Talic

Dr Niki is a cosmetic doctor and Paediatric trauma Consultant from Melbourne. She undertook her medical training at the University of London and completed her paediatric specialist training at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. Dr Niki is the medical director and co-founder of her medical aesthetic clinic - Dr FRESH, located in the heart of Melbourne. Her primary goal is to aim for a conservative approach while also focusing on safety during aesthetic treatments. She has trained with local and internationally renowned experts and has a passion for training and education. She enjoys supporting doctors and nurses in her field and training in innovative new treatments.

Chris is an Emergency Physician and Trauma Specialist at The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, and head of clinical research for the National Trauma Research Institute (NTRI). Chris has a particular interest in the prehospital management of trauma and has worked as a retrieval specialist with Sydney HEMS, CareFlight NSW, and Adult Retrieval Victoria, and internationally with London’s Air Ambulance and Essex & Hertfordshire Air Ambulance in the UK. He is a former director of emergency medicine training with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and also a founder of The Procedures Course and The Airway Course, which are cadaver-based skills courses, teaching life-saving interventions to critical care clinicians.

Dr Ian Millar

Dr Ian Millar is Australia’s most longstanding and experienced hyperbaric physician, having first supervised hyperbaric treatments in the early 1980’s. He was appointed to the Alfred Hospital as its inaugural VMO in Diving & Hyperbaric Medicine when The Alfred Hyperbaric Service was first established in 1987 and he has been a member of the medical team there ever since, appointed as Head of Unit and then Director during the period 1994 – 2012. He has an international profile as an expert in the delivery of HBOT to high acuity intensive care patients and has represented our region on a number of European, US and local professional societies and committees, including chairing various Australian Standards committees for most of his professional career.

Dr Millar has a particular interest in the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment for acute ischaemic and traumatic conditions and he led a successful international multi-centre RCT on severe leg injury. The Alfred Hyperbaric Service is occasionally asked to provide emergency or acute HBO treatments aimed at maximising tissue salvage when reconstructive or cosmetic surgical procedures result in ischaemic complications and in recent years, Dr Millar and the Alfred team have become involved in a number of cases where such adverse outcomes have followed cosmetic injection procedures.

Dr Cesca Markey

Dr Cesca is an emergency doctor at the Alfred and recently joined the Flawless Rejuvenation team as an injector. Her passion for safe and patient focused injecting led her to the Cosmetic Physicians College of Australia (CPCA) diploma course for medical practitioners. She is also a member of AMET.

Lisa Kirby

Lisa is a Critical Care nurse with 17 years Emergency experience in varying roles. As an Associate Nurse Manager and most recently Clinical Nurse Educator, she is passionate about nursing education and development. Lisa is also an Equipment Coordinator for The Procedures Course, a medical skills training course for life saving procedures.
